Continental Express to Shanghai PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 March 2009 16:21

Continental Airlines has become the first American airline to bring out the new flight route that takes passengers from New York to Shanghai directly. The flight that takes a bum numbing 14 hours and 25 minutes, will take off daily from Newark Liberty International Airport.

Chinese dancers yesterday danced around the terminals in celebration of the new flight path. They also preformed the Lion Dance which is said to bring good luck and wealth to the airline. But with the current recession, it has been a bold move by the company to open up the new flight path.

Jeff Smisele said ‘You may be wondering why we are launching a new route now, well the answer is simple and we see this as a huge opportunity. Many of out competitors have delayed or deferred their planned new routes to China’

Continental has served Hong Kong from Newark since 2001 and Beijing since 2005.

No Flight Tax to the Netherlands PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 March 2009 16:11

That’s right, the Dutch government have decided to abolish the flight tax. Flight tax was only introduced in 2008 and the decision has been welcomed by European airlines Ryanair and EasyJet.

Travelers willing to go to the Netherlands will no longer pay flight tax, this is equivalent to the UK’s Air Passenger Duty (APD). Ryanair, one of the leading European airliners, is calling for the UK government to follow the Dutch governments examples are scrap the taxes. They claim that governments can not stimulate tourism with taxes.

EasyJet have also welcomed the tax abolishment, ‘the Dutch government has done the right thing to ensure that aviation has a future in the Netherlands’ the airlines chief executive, Andy Harrison said.

However even with the tax abolishment, Schiphol Airport is still the second most expensive airport in Europe. And only when prices come down there, will the airlines start investing in the Netherlands again.

Police say that the unnamed 28 year old will be charged with child abandonment, and could face up to 7 years in prison. It is believed that the child survived being left in the rubbish bin on flight during landing. It has been reunited with its mother in hospital but under close watch from social services.

The mother may also have charges brought against her for not reveling that she was pregnant before flying. She could face up to a further 7 years in prison and up to NZ$100,000 (£57,000) fine
